2023, Jack Stallings, Sr.

2023, CW Bailey

CW Bailey

  • Years of services: 36 years Officiating Wrestling, 26 years in MCOA, 12th year as the Wrestling Commissioner
  • CW has been the MCOA Wrestling Commissioner and active MCOA Executive Council member for 12 years.
  • CW has been wrestling/involved in wrestling since the 6th grade, thru high school and three years wrestling in the US Air Force.
  • CW was the 1980 3rd Air Force & USAFE Champion and as such named an Honorary Olympic Alternate for the 1980 US Boycotted Moscow Olympics.
  • CW coached wrestling 17 years while stationed at USAF bases in FL, AL, UK & MA including 9 years as the Head Coach at his Alma Mater, Cocoa High School.
  • To date he has officiated 125 national championship tournaments In Folk, Free & Greco Roman Styles.
  • CW has been nominated for induction into the Florida Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall Of Fame.

2023, Barbara Burgess

Barbara Burgess

  • Soccer and Girl’s lacrosse
  • 20+ years of service
  • Barbara was a leader in getting women interested in officiating.
  • Her daughter is still working as an official. She was instrumental in getting girl’s lacrosse into Brevard county.
  • She officiated lacrosse in Indian River county for years before we had it here.
  • She was one of our first commissioners and spent countless hours training officials. On the field Barbara was the consummate official.
  • She exuded confidence and knowledge while serving the sports with love.

2023, Bill Bancroft

Bill Bancroft

  • Basketball Referee, U.S. Navy Veteran, Submariner, Iowa State University
  • Served his country for 30 years in the United States Navy.
  • Commanding Officer of the Naval Ordnance Test Unit at Cape Canaveral where he was responsible for the launching of many Navy missiles from the Eastern Space and Missile Center.
  • Upon retirement in Feb 1990 he went to work for the Canaveral Port Authority.
  • He had his most fun refereeing basketball games and more than once worked State High School championship games in Virginia and Florida.
  • He was an active member of the Mid-Coast Officials Association, Naval Submarine League, Missile Space and Range Pioneers, Civilian Military Council, Cocoa Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, serving as its Chairman of the Board in 1997, and the Wuesthoff Health System Board of Directors beginning in 1998, serving as its Chairman in 2007 and 2008 and again in 2010 thru 2011.
  • In 2009 he joined the Central Brevard Salvation Army as an advisory Board member serving thru 2017 and in 2010 initiated the Space Coast Health Foundation as one of its founding Board members, serving on its Board until 2019.

2023, Larry Makela, Sr.

Larry Makela Sr.

  • Born in Ridley Park, PA
  • Employed at Kennedy Space Center (KSC)
  • USSSA umpire. He served as Florida’s USSSA State Umpire in Chief from 1980 until 2009.
  • In 1999, he was honored by USSSA Hall of Fame with Larry Makela, Jr. as the first father and son to umpire together in the USSSA Men’s Major World Series.
  • As a thirty year plus member of the Mid Coast Officials Association (MCOA), he officiated or umpired Florida high school football, basketball and softball games.

2023, Jack Stallings, Jr.

  • Jack Stallings, with over 30 years of NFHS Wrestling Officiating Experience in Five States, including OH, TN, GA, AL & FL, is Absolutely a Rank 1, Grade A, Top Shelf Wrestling Official.
  • He was twice named Alabama Wrestling Official of the Year, and was selected to officiate the State Wrestling Championships in AL, TN, GA & FL.
  • He was the MCOA Wrestling Commissioner from 2003-2011, an annually elected position, before moving out of state to support family.
  • As an athlete, he wrestled through high school in Brevard County & two years of college in AL while also serving in the US Army Airborne Reserve. He coached his son to State Qualifying Wrestling Performances in TN & FL.
  • Additionally, he supported, helped train & coached his daughter to NINE Individual FHSAA Swimming State Championships, resulting in a University of West Virginia Five Year Full Ride Scholarship.
  • JACK has also been an FHSAA Football Referee since ‘96 with playoff experience in FL, AL, GA & TN. Jack knows his way around Officiating, Sports & Athletes at all levels.
  • Suffice it to say, I have the utmost respect for Jack Stallings and unwavering confidence in his ability to officiate wrestling at any level.
